N63 engine rattle on cold start that goes away after a minute, should I be worried or is that normal
Picked up a 2015 650i a few weeks ago from a private seller and the car was absolutely flawless during the test drive, but now that I’m starting it up every morning I notice this faint rattling sound from the engine bay that disappears completely once the oil temp starts climbing. It’s not super loud or anything, just enough that my neighbor who also drives a BMW asked if I’d had the timing chain checked yet, which obviously sent me down a rabbit hole of N63 horror stories all night. I know these engines have a reputation but the car only has 80k on it and the service history looks pretty legit. I stumbled across https:bmw-garage.ae while trying to figure out where to take it for a proper inspection and honestly the whole hot vee engine thing is still a bit of a mystery to me so I’d rather have someone who really knows these motors give it a listen before my anxiety gets the better of me. Anyone else with an N63 experience something similar on cold starts, or is my neighbor just getting in my head for no reason.
