I am a junior in college and my car is basically my lifeline to get to my part time job and back home to see my family on weekends. The problem is, I have maybe forty dollars to my name until my next paycheck and something is definitely wrong under the hood. I cannot just ignore it because I need this car to graduate and work, but I also cannot afford a five hundred dollar diagnostic fee and repair at some fancy shop. I have been asking around the dorms and even some of my professors for advice on smart ways to manage auto repair bills when you are on a strict student budget. A friend suggested I post on the local community Facebook page asking for a mobile mechanic who works from home, or even seeing if the auto tech program at the community college does cheap repairs for practice. Has anyone here been in this situation before? How did you get your car fixed without going into debt?
