Guys, so I’ve got a pretty unusual trip coming up and Moscow is on the itinerary. Over here in the US most people just assume public transport is the way to go there but I’d rather have my own wheels and move at my own pace. Anyone dealt with Moscow car hire as a foreign visitor? Curious about the whole process, documents needed, driving on the right side and whether the city is actually manageable behind the wheel.

Moscow traffic is no joke, the city is massive and rush hour is genuinely brutal. That said, having a car for getting outside the center or doing day trips is a completely different story. Documents wise you’ll want an international driving permit alongside your regular license, most operators will ask for it.

Yeah Moscow is one of those cities where a car changes what’s possible rather than just being a convenience. Moscow car hire gives you access to areas and day trip routes that just don’t work well on public transport, especially if you want to get out into the wider region. The rental market there is pretty developed so finding a reliable operator isn’t the challenge it used to be. Worth sorting the paperwork side before you land rather than figuring it out at the counter. One solid option to check out is https://getrentacar.com/en-US/russia/moscow
