Invasions in Elden Ring can be intense, chaotic, and incredibly rewarding—especially when you emerge victorious. Whether you’re journeying through the Lands Between solo or with allies, there’s always the risk of another player breaching your world with hostile intent. If you’ve struggled to hold your ground against invaders or want to sharpen your PvP instincts, these 12 tips will help you handle invasions like a seasoned Tarnished.
1. Know the Environment
One of the most overlooked strategies is map knowledge. Use the terrain to your advantage—tight corridors limit movement, while open spaces may benefit your dodge-heavy build. Familiarity with the area can also help you predict where the invader might enter.
2. Keep Your Flasks Ready
Always enter an area fully stocked with Crimson and Cerulean Flasks. Healing and FP recovery can quickly turn the tide of a battle. Investing some Elden Ring Runes into Mind or Vigor can also help you last longer in unexpected fights.
3. Equip a Versatile Loadout
Switching between weapons is crucial. A strong melee weapon paired with a ranged option—like a bow or sorcery staff—gives you flexibility. Some Elden Ring Items also allow for quick weapon swapping or temporary buffs that could catch invaders off guard.
4. Buff Before the Fight
Use your incantations, sorceries, or consumables to buff up before engaging. Pop Flame, Grant Me Strength or Golden Vow for a boost, or use items that increase poise or stamina regeneration. The right preparation can make a major difference.
5. Keep an Eye on the Compass
The compass at the top of your screen reveals the general direction of nearby enemies, including invaders. This small visual clue can help you avoid ambushes and plan your counterattack.
6. Use Terrain to Split Groups
When invaded while playing with allies, terrain manipulation becomes crucial. Luring invaders through narrow paths or corners can separate them from your team’s attacks or allow for a devastating ambush.
7. Don’t Chase Recklessly
Skilled invaders often bait players into mobs or traps. Resist the urge to chase mindlessly. Instead, wait for them to make the mistake or leave their safe zone. Staying patient and grounded usually works in your favor.
8. Watch for Gank Setups
Some invaders travel in pairs or attempt to kite you into groups of enemies. Always check your surroundings and consider whether the fight is genuine or part of a trap. If you’re unsure, retreat to a safe zone or summon backup.
9. Utilize Spirit Ashes (If Allowed)
While Spirit Ashes are usually disabled in PvP, certain co-op situations or specific zones may allow them temporarily. When active, use strong Ashes to divide the invader’s attention and create openings.
10. Farm Runes to Strengthen PvP Potential
Leveling strategically using Elden Ring Runes will boost your chances in invasions. Don’t just pump Vigor and Strength—invest in Endurance for stamina management and Dexterity to reduce fall damage or improve casting speed.
11. Have Backup Elden Ring Items
Stockpile useful Elden Ring Items like Warming Stones, Staunching Boluses, or Neutralizing Boluses. These can cure status effects like bleeding or poison, which many invaders exploit for quick wins.
12. Know When to Retreat
Sometimes the best tactic is to disengage. If the odds are heavily stacked against you, make a tactical retreat toward a Site of Grace or even into enemy territory—where mobs can turn the tide. Smart disengagement is often a mark of a skilled player.
Invasions are part of what makes Elden Ring so dynamic and replayable. Each encounter offers a chance to refine your skills, test your build, and adapt under pressure. With the right mindset, preparation, and usage of Elden Ring Runes and Elden Ring Items, you can turn even the most daunting invasion into an opportunity for growth—and victory.
