1. Set Up OTP on the Website Before Verifying In-Game

One of the biggest mistakes players make is trying to verify their phone number directly inside the game client before enabling account security on the NCSoft website.

The launcher and in-game client often reject phone verification requests if OTP protection is not already active.

Here’s the process that worked for many players:

Log into your NCSoft account management page through a browser.
Open the Security or Security Service section.
Enable One-Time Passcode (OTP).
Scan the QR code using Google Authenticator or another authenticator app.
Enter the generated 6-digit code to confirm activation.
Wait until the account status changes to something like “In Use” or “Protected.”

After this, launch the Purple launcher again and retry mobile verification inside the game.

A lot of players report that SMS requests suddenly start working once OTP is properly enabled online first.

2. Double-Check Your Country Code

Keep your normal US phone number unchanged.
Request the SMS code again.

Because both countries use the +1 code, the server occasionally routes the request differently and bypasses the block.

It does not work for everyone, but enough players have reported success that it is worth trying.

4. International Numbers May Be Blocked Entirely

Taiwan and Korean servers sometimes reject foreign carriers automatically.

This is especially common with:

VoIP numbers
Budget prepaid carriers
Southeast Asian numbers
Some European mobile providers
Google Voice numbers

If the verification button instantly errors out without sending an SMS, your number may be region-blocked instead of temporarily failing.

When international numbers are blocked completely, some players temporarily use a Hong Kong or Taiwan virtual number to pass the first security check.

Purchase a temporary Hong Kong or Taiwan number.
Enter the number during Aion 2 verification.

This workaround is especially popular for Taiwan server registrations.

However, there are risks:

Some temporary numbers get blacklisted quickly.
Shared virtual numbers may fail randomly.
Using unreliable providers can expose your account security.

If you go this route, avoid storing payment methods on the account until everything is fully secured.

6. Server Overload Is a Real Problem

During launch periods or major updates, NCSoft’s SMS gateway gets overloaded constantly.

Symptoms include:

SMS never arriving
Infinite loading circles
“Please try again later” messages
Verification cooldown errors
Codes arriving 20–30 minutes late

In these cases, your setup may actually be correct.

The servers are simply overwhelmed.

7. Try the Midnight KST Reset Window

Many players noticed that verification becomes easier immediately after the daily reset.

NCSoft’s security systems appear to refresh around midnight Korean Standard Time (KST).

If verification fails repeatedly during peak hours, try again:

Right after 00:00 KST
Early Korean morning hours
Non-weekend periods

This reduces congestion and sometimes bypasses temporary rate limits.

8. Avoid Spamming Verification Requests

Repeated failed attempts can trigger temporary security locks.

If you request too many SMS codes in a short time:

The system may stop sending codes entirely.
Your IP may get temporarily flagged.
Your number can enter a cooldown state.

A safer approach is:

Wait 10–15 minutes between attempts.
Restart the launcher completely.
Clear launcher cache if available.
Re-login to your NCSoft account before retrying.
9. VPN Usage Can Affect Verification

Some players use VPNs to access Taiwan or Korean servers, but this can sometimes interfere with SMS verification.

Problems usually happen when:

Your VPN region does not match your selected phone region.
The VPN IP is already flagged by NCSoft.
The connection changes during OTP setup.

If verification fails repeatedly, try:

Disabling the VPN temporarily
Switching to a Taiwan or Korea server location
Using a more stable residential VPN endpoint
