The Flyers and Lightning may have brought the electricity Tuesday night. Joe Kelly Jersey However, the Wells Fargo Center did not. The game in Philadelphia was briefly delayed after a power outage at the home arena of the Flyers occurred in the first period. Le s than six minutes after the puck dropped, part of the in-arena lightning, the video board, and the sound system all shut off at the arena, causing a stop in play. After a conversation with both benches, the officials and teams decided to continue play even with partial darkne s embracing the stadium. Some of the lights went out at Wells Fargo Center After a brief delay, the teams will play through it B/R Open Ice (@BR_OpenIce) “[The officials] asked me if you want to play. I did, and [Lightning head coach Jon Cooper] did,” Flyers head coach John Tortorella . “We both decided, lets ask the goalies. Were up 1-0 at that time. I dont think [Samuel Er son] was too crazy [about it], I really dont give a s what Ers was, were up 1-0.” While play continued as normally as po sible, the players felt a difference. Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim pointed out a change in the ice. “It felt like the outdoor game with the darkne s around us,” Sanheim said. “Started to Kevin Plawecki Jersey get really hot and ice started to get terrible there as it got warmer.” In addition, rookie forward Tyson Foerster saw a shift in the atmosphere at the arena, with no music being pumped into the venue. “It was super dead in there, we felt like on the bench,” Foerster said. “The fans were great, but no music or anything. It was kinda weird.” Philadelphia, who was up 1-0 at the time of brief delay thanks to a goal by Boston Red Sox Blank Jersey rookie Bobby Brink eventually went on to win the contest 6-2. The two sides carried a 1-1 tie into the final frame before the Flyers exploded for five goals. MORE: Why did the power go out at Flyers-Lightning game? Wells Fargo Center president behind the power outage. “During the first period, we had a transformer on the event level that burned up,” Laws said. “Dont know why. External, something inside the Nick Yorke Jersey building. Electrical crews have removed that from the system that allows us to turn the power on that we lost briefly and right now going around restoring the systems, starting with the game-critical ones.” Laws continued to explain that while the power in the arena may have temporarily been out, the sheet of ice would not have been affected. “We have three chillers,” Laws said. “We like to run two at a time. Right now were running on one, which we do believe will get us through the night.” By the start of the second period, the ice surface was back to being fully lit for the players to see. However, the sound system did not come back until about halfway through the middle frame, and one of the LED rings around the bowl did not function until the third period. The video board never gained power. “I think we Xander Bogaerts Jersey shook it off pretty well,” Flyers defenseman Sean Walker said. “Definitely kind of weird. Thats the first time its ever happened for me, and Im sure most guys. Unique, but I think it ended up working in our favor.”
